Carpet Fibers:
- Acrylic: Promoted as "the synthetic substitute for wool: Acrylic looks like wool but is highly stain resistant. Drawbacks are twofold: First, nap-reversal causes traffic areas to stand out vividly. Second due to non-resiliency, furniture on acrylic creates permanent impressions.
- Olefin: (polypropylene, etc.)--resist staining, usually solution dyed, lipophilic (oil-loving-doesn't like water).
- Nylon: Wears better than any fiber, including wool, cleans well, bounces back even after being crushed, really holds its original appearance for quite some time.
